About 9 years ago, Michael and Judy
met in a paint store where they were selecting colors for murals they were
working on individually. Both were finding it difficult to keep up with
their demanding schedules, they discovered they only lived 3 blocks apart,
and after a few more meetings and working together on the 1st job, they
decided to combine forces. They formed Thornton & Chamberlin Design,
a mural and fine art company.
Judy attained her degree in Art History from UC Berkeley, and had been pursuing her art career and painting murals around the Bay Area for 15 years. Her work at that time included the Chat Cafe, in S.F., Le Pleasant Jardin in Pleasanton, and The New Rochelle in Pleasanton.
After attending Tulsa Art Students Academy, and C.C.A.C., Michael has been an artist around the Bay Area for 25 yrs. He worked as a designer and illustrator for various companies like the Oakland Airport, BART, Bank of America, Coldwell Banker, and Microsoft. His mural work was primarily in homes from Alamo and Blackhawk to Fremont.
Some of Judy and Michael's more recent commercial mural work can be seen at the new Stacey's restaurant at Waterford, Delatorres Restaurante in Pleasanton, and Entourage in Fremont and recently completed Pete's Seafood Restaurant in Dublin. Residential work can be seen in the portfolio, and by appointment. Many recent requests have been for "Tuscan looking" murals, and they have developed many of their own aged finishes and works of art.
From the beginning, based on their shared belief that one of the original intentions of art is to heal, their common goal has been to enhance living spaces with art that will inspire, awaken, and bring calm and joy. They pray each day before they begin their work that God will work through them to this end. They are committed to excellence and constant growth of their expertise. While they approach their work seriously and with great passion, if There has been any consistent comment on working style, it's that they seem to have "way too much fun".
Their styles blend amazingly to create a myriad of effects from, trompe l' oeil illusions, photorealism, impressionism, to abstract. They do portraiture and paintings on commission. Please call for a viewing of the entire portfolio. They also each have their own individual fine art portfolios; Judy's being abstract, and Michael's figurative allegory.
